Mixed media techniques ...

Before I start a sculpture, I spend many hours researching my subject. I read everything I can, and gather many photos.

It can take 60 hours to carve a small head the size of a walnut from plastic polymer with a dental tool. After baking the head in the oven I may carry it around in my pocket for months before it "speaks" to me and I know what to do with it.

Then I make a little skeleton out of wire, wrap it with plaster bandages, add some paper mache, cover that with plastic polymer, carve the details, and bake it. I make hands, feet, and any other small objects that I want to add, build a wooden base, assemble the figures, attach everything to the base, paint all with acrylics - and viola! It's done!
